ERIC's Microarray Database (a.k.a. mAdb or "Mad Bee") offers users an integrated set of web-based analysis tools and a data management system for storing and analyzing gene expression data. ERIC supports both two channel as well as single channel data such as Affymetrix.

mAdb was originally developed for the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is continually being enhanced and your suggestions are welcome. Please contact us to report any problems or request additional features.

Features and analysis tools currently in mAdb include:

  • Ability to refresh gene information in stored datasets
  • Configurable data display
  • Pathways Summary report (GeneDB, KEGG, GO)
  • Array group assignment, statistics and averaging
  • Boolean comparison of datasets
  • Interactive scatter plot
  • Multiple array graphical viewer
  • Statistical analysis of significance: t-tests, Wilcoxon Rank Sum, ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis algorithms
  • Agglomerative clustering: hierarchical, K-means, and self organizing maps (SOM)
  • Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS)
  • PAM (Prediction Analysis of Microarrays) classifier
  • Support of MIAME protocols
  • Data can be exported to Excel, tab-delimited files
  • User management of data

Why do I have to login?
The ERIC system encourages collaborative scientific research among users, but allows data to be held private for a period of time. A project owner has the ability to grant access at multiple levels to any other mAdb account holder. Persons granted access can use any of the analysis tools on mAdb to work with data in that project. Future versions of mAdb will allow guest access to datasets that have been made available to the general public.

Users of mAdb on the ERIC system are focused on Enteropathogen research and agree to make their data and analysis public after an appropriate period of time. Data uploaded to mAdb is subject to ERIC's Data Transfer Agreement.
